The design phase of the instructional design process is critical to the overall success of the learning module.  After the learning gaps have been identified through a needs analysis, a design document is created as a high-level overview of the course.  Once the design document has been reviewed and approved, a more detailed plan for the development of the course occurs in the form of a storyboard.  A storyboard outlines each slide or block of the learning module and includes suggested images, interactions, and a script.  When the storyboard is reviewed and approved, the development phase is then begun.
